About 2018 UTR Winter Slam / UTR Grand Slam Event! Presented by Second Serve
Welcome to the first ever UTR Grand Slam Event. The 2018 Winter Slam presented by Second Serve Tennis Center in Metairie will be hosted by the beautiful English Turn Country Club, home of the best trophies in tennis. Winner of each flight will win his her height. All matches will have a chair official from start to finish. New balls every 7 and 9 games.

Dates: Friday, January 26th thru Sunday, January 28th -- Matches Friday will start in the early afternoon. If you can play earlier in the day please notify the tournament director by text.

Entry Fee: $94

Eligibility: Open to men, women, boys, and girls of all ages

Divisions: Yellow ball & Green Dot divisions for 10 & under players

Surface: Clay & Hard Court

Minimum number of matches for each player in this tournament: 4

Maximum number of players for this Tournament: 88

Spots remaining: 38

Match, set and game scoring format: Yellow Ball will play 3 out of 5 short sets. No ad scoring and a tie-breaker at 3-3. No tie-breaker in the fifth and deciding set. Green Dot players will play 2 out of 3 short sets. No ad scoring and a tie-breaker at 3-3. No tie-breaker in the third and deciding set.

Awards: Winners of each flight will be measured immediately after final match. If you are 6 feet tall you will receive a 6 foot tall trophy. If you are 4ft 7in you will receive a 55 inch trophy. All flight winners will receive a trophy equal or greater then his/her height.

Important Info: No service lets in all matches. The ball is in play and is live if hits the net and lands in on a serve.

Players will receive Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) credit for all matches played.

Player UTRs will be used when selecting players for the Tournament and/or Division/Draw.

Seeding is based on player UTRs.

A UTR subscription is required to search and view player ratings on the UTR system, with pricing starting at forever free for UTR Basic. The UTR Premium Plus allows subscribers access to search and view college team profiles.

Officiating Plan: Official will be on every court. Players are expected to behave well. Poor sportsmanship will result in losing ability to play in future English Turn events.

About UTR: Universal Tennis Ratings provide tennis players worldwide a common scale to determine their level of play. The 16-level scale (from beginners to elite world-class professionals), precisely and reliably determines individual players’ ratings based on actual match results without regard for age, gender or where the matches are played. The Universal Tennis website allows visitors to view more than three million tennis results. College Tennis coaches utilize UTR ratings for recruiting, for scouting opponents, and also to track the levels of their current players. The ITA currently uses UTR ratings to assist with selections and seeding’s for select regional and national events.
