About Wake Forest University January Men's and Women's UTR
Thursday, January 4th - 6:15 PM Update - Please keep an eye on the draws and schedule tomorrow, Friday. The snow storms in the Northeast are affecting flights that are bringing many of the tournament players back to the Winston-Salem area tomorrow. Consequently, we may see some changes in the draw or start times for Saturday.
Thursday, January 4th - 2:00 PM Update - The women's singles draw (23 players) is now available. All 7 first round matches will start at 11:00 am on Saturday at the Wake Forest University Tennis Center (100 West 32nd Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27105). Players with a first round bye are starting at either 12:30 or 1:30 on Saturday.
We will talk with players about doubles sign-up when they check in for singles. There are three options for doubles when you check in...1) I want to play and I have a partner. 2) I want to play and please pair me up with someone. Or 3) I don't want to play doubles. Doubles will utilize the college format of 6-game prosets with no-ad scoring and will start late Saturday after singles is done for the day. There is no additional cost to play the doubles.
Thursday, January 4th - 9:00 AM Update - Unfortunately, the men's portion of the tournament is cancelled. The women's event is DEFINITELY STILL ON SCHEDULE as we have 20+ players for that event. Matches for the women will start at 11:00 am on Saturday with warm-up courts available here at 10:30. I will be working on getting refunds to the guys who had signed up. Hopefully we will see all the guys back for our summer circuit event which filled a 64 draw last June and had a waiting list.
Wednesday, January 3rd - 8:35 PM Update - Draws will not be out until tomorrow as we are waiting on a couple players to finalize plans and I'd prefer to avoid late withdrawals as much as possible since that keeps a player from getting a match to play. I anticipate starting the men's matches at 9:00 or 10:00 on Saturday, exact times available tomorrow, and the women will start around 11:00 on Saturday. As of now, men's tournament is likely to be divided into two round robin pools so that everyone gets at least 3 matches or 4 matches. To answer another common question given the cold weather, ALL matches will be played indoors this weekend. Any questions, you can message through this site, or text/call me at 336-422-4358. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
This two day tournament will have equal strength draws of 16 in singles and 8 in doubles. The goal will be to play 2 rounds of singles and 1 round of doubles for all players on Saturday. Two rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles will follow on Sunday. Singles will be best-of-three with a match tiebreaker for the third set. Doubles will utilize the college format of 6-game sets. All play will be no-ad.
Doubles sign-up will be on site the first day of tournament. When you check in for singles, please let the tournament director know if you have a partner, want a partner or do not want to play doubles.
